You can listen to OCDSB Director Pino Buffone’s comments on Friday Jan. 10th HERE that were broadcast on CBC’s afternoon show “All in a Day” and you can listen HERE to some of the responses to the proposal that were broadcast on CBC’s “Ottawa Morning” radio show. \nThis new proposal will be brought to the OCDSB’s Committee of the Whole on April 8th and to a final vote at the end of April. Throughout March\, you are invited to attend a series of consultation sessions where you can ask questions and voice concerns. You are encouraged to attend these sessions rather than the public sessions to allow the public as much opportunity as possible. \nPlease note this March 6th session is offered at both Earl of March Secondary School and Gloucester High School.

DESCRIPTION:International Women’s Day (IWD) has its roots in the international labour\, socialist\, and peace movements that were active early in the 20th century. IWD has been celebrated on March 8 since 1917 and is a national holiday in many countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.\nLike Labour Day\, International Women’s Day provides a focus for the necessary activism of the day.  In 2008\, the Canadian Labour Congress launched a year-long campaign on women’s economic equality. In 2000 and 2005\, the World March of Women launched its global campaigns on IWD. ETFO is committed to advancing gender equality. Read the ETFO equity statement and human rights statement. DESCRIPTION:CIVIX is excited to announce their upcoming Democracy Bootcamp conference for middle and secondary school educators \nFeaturing expert insights on Canadian politics and hands-on workshops that will equip you with powerful tools to teach students the skills of active and informed citizenship. \n\nThe event will take place at the Arcadian Loft and Court in Toronto on the evening of Thursday\, March 20 (6:30-8:00 p.m. with reception to follow) and during the day on Friday\, March 21 (8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.). \nSessions will include: \n\nA lively panel discussion panel where experts will dive deep into the latest political developments and unpack where the parties stand as we head toward the next federal election.\nA preview of resources for Student Vote Canada and strategies to support school-wide engagement in the election.\nNew tools to teach AI literacy and verification skills (new CTRL-F unit).\nResources to teach about cognitive biases and facilitate discussions about political issues (PoliTalks).\nA new experiential learning game designed to enhance students’ civic deliberation and decision-making competencies through a simulated community consultation.\n\nTo support your attendance\, CIVIX will reimburse schools or school boards for any release time costs (supply teacher expenses).  \nFor those educators living outside of Toronto\, complimentary shared accommodation is offered at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel (with private accommodation available at a rate of $125).
